About UDC
The University Dance Company (UDC) is a pre-professional performance ensemble, a 1-credit course required for majors, and a student organization. Students from any major may audition for membership each semester.
UDC presents major performances each fall in the Crafton-Preyer Theatre (1100 seats). Other recent venues include the Lied Center of Kansas (2,000 seats) and the Lawrence Arts Center (300 seats). Faculty and guest artists create work for the members of the ensemble across the genres of ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, tap, Indian classical, African and flamenco dance.
Some guest artists and companies who have set work on UDC include: Black Label Movement, Thodos Dance Chicago, Autumn Eckman, Regina Klenjoski, David Justin, Lane Gifford, Talia Beck, and many others. Outstanding student choreography also appears in UDC concerts. BA students must participate in UDC for at least two semesters, BFA students for four semesters.
As a student group, UDC hosts its own social activities and provides a community of support for dancers.
