The University Dance Company (UDC) is a pre-professional performance ensemble, a 1-credit course required for majors, and a student organization. Students from any major may audition for membership each semester. Faculty and guest choreographers create work in an intensive rehearsal process for performance at the Lied Center of Kansas and the Lawrence Arts Center each year. Guest artists and companies who have set work on UDC include: Black Label Movement, Thodos Dance Chicago, Autumn Eckman, Regina Klenjoski, David Justin, Lane Gifford, Talia Beck, and many others. Outstanding student choreography also appears in UDC concerts. BA students must participate in UDC for at least two semesters, BFA students for four semesters. As a student group, UDC hosts its own social activities and provides a community of support for dancers.
