Scholarships & Awards

Department scholarships are available to talented incoming dance majors in both the BA & BFA program. To receive a scholarship you must be accepted by KU as a dance major and you must apply and audition for a scholarship. You may audition in the fall or the early spring for the next academic year. Audition dates typically take place the first Saturday in November and the first Saturday in March.

Once a year the department of dance grants the Elizabeth Sherbon Award to a sophomore or junior of exceptional talent. This award ranges from $500 up to $1000.

In the spring of 2013 the department of Dance began the Jump Start Award for graduating seniors. This award is a $500 stipend designed to help graduating seniors in an intensive training opportunity that will support their professional career paths.

Dance students are also eligible to apply for travel awards through the department to help support the costs of attending dance intensives, seminars, and special training.

Who do you find standing at intersection of art and science? Someone like Natali Diaz-Yepes, who graduated in May with a double major in dance and genetic biology. To prepare for her senior dance recital, Diaz-Yepes navigated lecture halls and dance floors, chemistry and choreography, body and mind.
